We recently had the absolute pleasure of running Equality and Aspiration sessions with the incredible Year 5 pupils at St. Bede’s, St. Joseph’s, and St. Bega’s Catholic Primary Schools. These engaging sessions, part of the Power of Women (PoW) campaign and the Primary School Ambassador Program, sparked meaningful conversations around equality, career aspirations, and dreams for the future.
The Primary School Ambassador Program is driven by a powerful mission: to elevate students’ ambitions, champion equal opportunities, and challenge gender stereotypes. During the sessions, pupils reflected on the concept of equality, delving into the importance of gender balance and exploring how their career choices today could shape the world of tomorrow. These inclusive discussions inspired young minds to envision a future where there are no limits to what they can achieve, fostering conversations about a wide range of exciting career paths.
One of the most rewarding moments of the program was the selection of four ambassadors from each of these Bishop Hogarth Trust schools. The interview panel featured an incredible group of professionals: Rebecca Everson from Masfix, Millie from Tees Business, Billy Kelly and Kayleigh Pickersgill from Visualsoft and Emma Taylor from Northumbria Water. Their expertise provided invaluable, real-world interview experience for the pupils.
Watching these Year 5 pupils step confidently into the interview room, share their aspirations, and articulate their thoughts on equality was nothing short of inspiring. Their impressive applications and thoughtful responses made the selection process a challenging yet uplifting experience.
These sessions weren’t just about dreaming big; they also provided practical life skills, such as interview preparation, that these young leaders will carry with them for years to come. For us, this was a true highlight, showcasing the importance of fostering equality and giving students the tools they need to shape a brighter, more inclusive future.
