The explorer spirit has always been a feature of Tees Valley. I was told by an old engineer that it didn’t matter where he went to work in the world, he would always bump into someone from the Tees valley. Of course some of our explorers are internationally renowned. When the ‘Captain Cook Museum’ in Stewart’s Park was revamped a few years ago, Sir David Attenborough was excited to officially re-open it. Captain Cook is taught in all of our schools locally and with great pride but of course there are new frontiers to conquer now and although some parts of the deep forests and much of the ocean depths remain unknown, humankind wants to head into space. This week starts historical and then focusses on real exo-planet science in a range of challenges for pupils.
