What a fantastic day we had back at Redhall Primary School in Darlington! These energetic Year 1 and Year 2 pupils transformed into budding builders, donning hi-vis jackets and hard hats as they dove into the exciting world of construction. Equipt with spanners, nuts, and bolts, these young engineers set out to create their own free-standing structures.
From simple towers to intricate towers, their imaginations soared. They learned valuable lessons in communication, collaboration and problem-solving, tightening bolts and connecting pieces to bring their visions to life. These activities not only resulted in impressive physical structures but also laid the foundation for potential future careers in engineering and construction.
We also took the opportunity to explore various construction careers and challenge gender stereotypes within the industry.
Emelia from Year 1 summed it up amazingly in assembly, “It doesn’t matter if you’re a boy or a girl, everyone can do every job as long as you work hard.”
To top off the day with the Year 2s, we even found time to code robots to navigate a construction site, changing their lights and making sounds to alert us to potential hazards.
What an incredible day spent with these creative and enthusiastic pupils! Their passion and confidence promise a bright future in whatever career they choose!
