Ready to change the world? The pupils from Tilery Primary School in Stockton are wholeheartedly ready for the challenge! In our recent sessions, these vibrant Year 5 pupils displayed an immense drive to explore equal opportunities and challenge gender stereotypes through their participation in the Power of Women Campaign (PoW) and the Primary School Ambassador Program.
As they shared their dreams and ambitions for the future, these students strongly voiced their disagreement with Teesside being labeled as the worst place for young girls to grow up—an issue that sparked the creation of the PoW initiative. Our conversations revolved around the role of women in science, STEM-related careers, and even delved into the realm of sports, such as football, examining the roles of both male and female players. Before concluding the sessions, we took a moment to introspect, reflecting on our life stories, passions, and strengths, and aligning them with the PoW application form.
We were fortunate to have Claire Preston the Head of Operations from the PoW team on the panel for the interview process, and the response in terms of applications was overwhelming. We offered the pupils a real taste of a professional interview experience. The Year 5 pupils, bursting with enthusiasm, confidently took their turns in the interview room. The decision-making process was incredibly tough owing to the exceptional quality of the students’ applications and their poised performances during the interviews.
Our time at Tilery involved two remarkable sessions, and it was an absolute honor to collaborate with these outstanding Year 5 students!
