When robots visit your school it is a very exciting day and for the Year 3s at Crooksbarn Primary School it was no exception!
Even with all the excitement of our little, blue robotic friends wheeling into the hall flashing their lights and imitating dinosaurs, the behaviour, and manners of these pupils were impeccable. They demonstrated a whole range of successful learning behaviours to ensure we could maximise learning potential on our Robot Coding Day.
We began with why coding is important in our world today and looked at different job opportunities in the digital sector that are right on our doorstep. We built on their prior knowledge of block coding to communicate with our robots learning their coding language. Linking our geographical knowledge of the local area, on our floor maps we coded our robots to take a ‘Tour of the Tees Valley’ starting at Crooksbarn Primary School and visiting other parts of the Tees Valley including Darlington, Hartlepool, Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough. Aubrey, a pupil from Year 3 said “I really enjoyed learning all about the locations in our area and their famous landmarks.” Harriet added, “Learning is so much fun!” And Tommy put it simply “I loved coding our robot!”
Engagement and excitement levels were off the scale and the children couldn’t wait to tell their families at home time what had happened in school today.
What an unbelievable day with some coders of the future!
