What a fabulous morning at Whitecliffe Primary School working with the Year 5 and Year 6 children on our second round of ‘Energy Academy Workshops’ funded by Redcar and Cleveland College.
The children learned all about the exciting opportunities in our area with renewable energy and even built their own wind farm; choosing the location and routes for the cables on a map before constructing a working model.
During the session, the children became ‘Energy Engineers’ and very enthusiastically set up their own hydrogen-powered car using a solar panel inside the classroom. They waited excitedly till the end of the session to find out if the solar panel had worked indoors. After a final countdown for the ‘Hydrogen Grand Prix’, they flipped the switch and the motor came to life. A sea of amazed little faces flooded the classroom so much so that we decided to experiment again using battery power!
Harper, who had taken part in the session, said, “I’ve just loved everything about today!”
