Intelect are well known for their commitment to apprenticeships, not just locally but nationally. Every year as part of apprenticeship week they include an open day for POW ambassadors to come their site in Middlesbrough and find out what an engineering company really looks like. We had two sessions with different schools sending along their ambassadors. From 3D scanning, through the factory workshop (who doesn’t like a laser cutter!) to the electrical panel building room, the children got to see wide range of roles with something to suit any interest.

The day is organised and arranged each year by the brilliant Lily Brothwood and I’m sure she sounds more like a teacher every year! She also includes some of the young apprentices to support the tour and this gives the children even further role models to see and interact with. I think the general consensus on leaving was ‘definitely need to consider an apprenticeship when I am older’ so job done!
