Although we have to wait until June for everyone to get involved in Animex, we also run our year long academy with 11 schools involved this year at Teesside University. It gives us the chance to do more in-depth work with children, focussing on VFX, Animation and Gaming. It isn’t exactly a ‘hard sell’ to get the children engaged!

This year with more schools involved we split the session over two weeks, we didn’t want to lose that small group feel, closer attention for every pupil. This Term we developed our 3D imaging skills in the context of layout. After an introduction to the role of layout in the film industry, we then challenged the children to create their own virtual character and studio. Of course the apps that Apple provide for free with an iPad are work beautifully to create the right element of the project at the correct stage. You can see from below that the children developed their skills really quickly and were looking for opportunities to extend further. Many will be running sessions as part of their Animex Academy Ambassador roles back in school to engage the rest of their classmates. Can’t wait until our next sessions in Spring!
