We recently had the pleasure of running Equality and Aspiration sessions with the incredible Year 5 pupils at Thorntree, New Silksworth, and Eldon Grove Primary Schools. These sessions, part of the Power of Women (PoW) campaign and the Primary School Ambassador Program, sparked insightful conversations around equality, career goals, and aspirations for the future.

The Ambassador Program’s goal is to elevate students’ aspirations, foster equal opportunities, and challenge gender stereotypes. Every student was encouraged to reflect on the concept of equality, focusing on gender balance and exploring how career choices today can shape their future. These inclusive sessions helped pupils envision a world with no limits to what they can achieve, while also fostering conversations about a wide range of career paths.

Recently, we had the honor of selecting four ambassadors from each of these Extol Trust schools. Our interview panel included Martha Rae from Jacksons Law, Xinpei Bell from Johnson Matthey, Aaron Walker from Thirteen Group, Claire Heaney from CATS, Rebecca Everson from Masfix and Mel Coutts from Recruitrite all of whom provided invaluable, real-world interview experience. Watching these Year 5 pupils step confidently into the interview room, share their aspirations, and express their ideas about equality was inspiring. Their impressive applications and thoughtful responses made the selection process a real challenge!

These sessions were a highlight for us, as they emphasised the importance of equality and gave these young leaders practical experience in interviewing—a skill they’ll carry with them for years.
