At St Gabriel’s and Sacred Heart Primary Schools, both part of the NPCAT trust, Year 5 pupils are setting their sights on making a real difference! With hearts full of passion and enthusiasm, these young changemakers jumped straight into tackling gender stereotypes and promoting equal opportunities through our introduction to the Power of Women (PoW) Campaign and the Primary School Ambassador Program.

These pupils are determined to shape a brighter future. Inspired by the need for change, especially after Teesside was labeled the worst place for young girls to grow up, they’re eager to be part of the change.

In our dynamic discussions, we explored the importance of equal opportunities for everyone and even debated the roles of male and female footballers. The students spoke passionately about leveling the playing field—both on the pitch and in life! We also took time to reflect on their personal interests and strengths, all while preparing to fill out the PoW Ambassador application forms.

Fast forward a fortnight and the excitement reached new heights! Rachel Burke from Tracerco, Aneliese Hodgson from Johnson Matthey, and Claire Miller from Johnson Matthey joined our interview panels at Sacred Heart and St Gabriel’s to meet these budding leaders. The Year 5 pupils blew us away with their confidence and focus, making the final decision incredibly tough. Their applications were top-notch, and their interviews were nothing short of impressive!

These action-packed sessions highlighted just how ready the Year 5 stars of St Gabriel’s and Sacred Heart are to step up and change the world. It was a true privilege to work with these future leaders, and we can’t wait to see the incredible impact they’ll make!
